Christmas Crafting !

I'm down at my boyfriends for christmas and we have had a fabulous chrimbo ! Its not often i get to be down at christmas time , so i have really really enjoyed myself. Its handy having a boyfriend thats into crafting too as i dont have to bring much down to do a bit of crafting heheee !
Calvin , my boyfriend is a fab crafter , but can sometimes struggle - as we all do at times putting a card together - so we both had a go at the Saturday sketch...... and we used my copics ... i just love them !

Girl about Town Card !

The fabulous Louise Bridgen has done it again ! Louise has designed the most fabulous download , all about girls about town ! I love the designs that she has done - they even have a fab cafe and shop backgrounds . The images are very stylish and i have to say are just fabulous to use with copics . If you like colouring these are the images for you !

Not only do they come with backgrounds but also with sentiments ..
I couldnt wait to play so i just made a quickie card.. I used copics and chalked in the background shading .
If you have never used a download before then now is the time to try ! You can still get your crafty fix over christmas !
The downloads are available from charmed cards here .
You can see the many designs Louise has made there too.

If you have never used a download before this is what you do .

1. when you recieve your download you unzip the file - your pc might do it automatically or theres lots of free extractors on the net.

2.Once unzipped you can insert the file into word - this is what i do . You can resize the image and print it out .

The download also includes pre- coloured images , so if your in a hurry for a card, its already done for you if you want it !

If your using copics / prismas remember to print on your usual card you use for copics / prismas.

I have used whispers on downloads fine - I leave the print out a while to dry , just becareful near the edges and it works fine .

Le Chateau !

Well its not long to christmas now and i am not ready at all ! Ive been held up making a house -....
Now before i tell the story i just want to appoligise to all the mums out there that will by the end of this post be nagged until thier ears drop off to use thier best 12 x 12 , brads and primas just so barbie can live in the country ! lol
......................

THE STORY...
It all started when i was sat quitely crafting in my craft room ( like ya do) when i looked at my table and saw a strange sight !
What do you think you are doing Calvin ?

There was Calvin mouse dragging a flippen christmas tree right over my work !

and he was about to park the tree bang smack in the middle of my craft table !!!!
I am soooooooo not having that !

Well since he looks like he has well and truly made himself at home in my craft room (sigh) i thought i might as well make him a house - its something i guess a crafter says to herself when sharing a craft table with a mouse ....
anyway ........ I got some mountboard , some 12 x12 ,some fimo , some brads , and ............... my best primas (said with gritted teeth) uhu and armed with a stanley knife made him this.................. 23 inches high ...

his reaction ?

well i guess we can safely say he likes it !
shall we take some closer peeks and look inside too ?
the front door was made from the sizzix pentagon die and i used a large brad for the door knob.
Calvin my boyfriend lent me the a large fern punch and i used this around the windows and also for the front of the house.

The front of the house i glued turqoise bobbly wool all around the front and made some roses from fimo . I glued the roses and primas onto the wool .

The top working shutters were made from a pentagon sizzix die and a small tag punch.(see further down the post )

Upstairs ... Well Calvin mouse has always wanted to be the first mouse on the moon ... I am afraid i cant make that dream come true ... but what i can do is make him a space themed bedroom!

..
and as you can see he is rather comfy in it too !

the bed was made using a sizzix jumbo tag die , cut down to size to make the head board and the end of the bed.

Living room.

Now my boyfriend Calvin has felt very guilty about torturing my mouse ... and so made him two tables and a chair .. now he has his own craft table ! ( calvin the mouse thinks they are fab !) theres more pics and what he used for it on his blog.

The settee was made of match boxes tissue paper for padding and a plastic cd round case cut in half for the back ..( are you listening to that mums of bratz and barbie fans ! LOL)

Inside the front panel........

The front panel is hinged using a dasiy d hinge. It can open and shut .
now i am not brilliant at curtains but did my best with them .
The curtain pole is some dowelling (actually i ran out , so i broke off the end of my chalking tool ! .. but i wont tell anyone if you dont lol )

.. the pole ends are fimo balls fatterned slightly and pushed into the dowelling then baked ( leave one end off to fit the curtains on ) The ends helps raise the pole away from the wall so the curtains can be drawn.

Lets peek through the front door and see if he is settling in shall we ?

Looks like he is well at home .. he has even got his chrimbo tree up !

THE MAKING OF THE HOUSE !

4 X pieces of mountboard JUST A FEW MM UNDER 12 X 12 - Use 3 pieces and i taped on the seams ( so it can bend ) with masking tape several times.

THE FRONT

DECORATED INSIDE

SHUTTERS WERE MADE FROM A SIZZIX PENTAGON DIE AND A TAG PUNCH FOR THE HINGES.

No doubt Calvin mouse will make this house a home !

Tutorial -fimo Card !

I have had many emails and requests for making embellishments for cards and scrapbooking layouts.. so in view of demand lol i will show you how to make a snowman family. It is slightly different from the earrings , and i have also made a tutorial of the holly and berries , i did have a little help from you know who too !

Now if i was to send a card with fimo on , i would definatly put it in a strong box for posting .. fimo is delicate and i wouldnt think it would survive being shoved through a letter box !
Also if you was to use it on a layout i would make sure nothing heavy goes onto of your scrapbook.

So here goes ! REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS BEFORE AND WHEN YOU CHANGE COLOURS.
1. roll a ball of white fimo
.

2. Roll this into a sausage shape .

3. Next we are going to cut the bodies and the heads , The first is the dad snowman body - cut roughly about 2 cms , then the head 1 1/2 cm . Mum - body 1 1/2 cm head 1cm , child snowman -body 1cm , head just alittle over 1/2 cm. These measurements are only a guide , so long as it looks in proportion , thats ok.

4. Keeping them in order- ie - dads body , dads head etc .. roll each one into a smooth round ball.

5. next we have to taper the ends of each body. Place the pad of your finger just on top but on the side of the ball and roll back and forth until the end looks like a tear shape.
Flattern this with your finger and then gently press the head onto the body - just use alittle of the taper end or he will look a bit neckless !

6. now we have all three snowmen , its time to add the hat . first roll a red ball of fimo , flattern slightly with the pad of your finger and cut in half. Place one half onto the top of the head - tap gently to secure. With the other half left over roll this back into a ball then into a tear shape (just like we did for the body ) Cut the end of point off and gently push onto the hat - tap to secure - and remember also it needs to be flat against your surface. This is shown on the picture as 1- ball, 2 - tear shape - 3 cut off point.

7.its time to add the scarf . first roll a small ball of white fimo and then asmall ball of red fimo . Roll each of these into a thin sausage shape . Pick up both ends with your thumb and index finger and lift up so it dangles . Using your other hand , twist the fimo from the bottom- becareful not to over twist as it will break off.

8. Cut off a small piece and wrap around the front of the snowmans neck.

9. cut two smaller pieces for the scarf. Then roll a very small ball of red and gently tap this onto the scarf join.Repeat for the other two snowmen.

10 , Using some orange fimo , roll into a ball , then a thin sausage shape. Cut out 3 tiny triangles for noses and using your knife to gently pick it up with, place on the face and tap gently.

11. For the mouth -Now take your straw and cut the end off at an angle - so it looks like a half moon shape. Test the shape on a piece of spare fimo , once your happy with the shape gently push into the face - you can position them with different smiles - ie at the side.

12 - The eyes- for the eyes i used a cocktail stick - gently push in and twist it as your taking it out .... hmmmmmm i appear to have lost mine ..........
WHERE IS IT MISTER ????

THANK YOU CALVIN MOUSE !

Right back to crafting !

13.Place your dad and mum snowmen together. gently tap the sides so they stick to each other.
Because there is a gap underneth the child it needs to be filled to keep it the same height as the other two. Roll a small ball of white fimo and place this just between the mum and the dad.

14. Now place the child ontop.
15. For the arms. - roll small sausage shapes and gently tap onto the sides. For dads hand around mum , roll a small tear shape and press gently over her shoulder .

Now all three are ready for baking . I bake on a tile or plate (not used for food) and bake as per instructions on the clay packet.
ONCE baked - leave to cool . On the video i show you how to make the holly and to make your snowmen look furry. Its not the best vid in the world lol but it gets alot clearer at the end.
.

video on how to make the holly leaves and make your snowmen look furry ! and yes a certain somebody is in it too ... twice !

fimo available from Jennies shop The Artistic Stamper !

have fun !

love maddy.
