Needing help fellow bloggers - can you save the day ????

There is about to be a damsel in distress ..... as most of you know soph is moving out of the
supported unit she is in to independent living ... shes moving into a little flat with a support worker visiting once a week - and me everyday ofcourse !
Well bloggers disaster has struck ... soph saw some curtains on ebay - they very ones she wanted

listed as new and undamaged ... they arrived today - obviously seconds and ripped !!!!!

Bought for £55 plus £7.00 postage - alot of money for ripped seconds !
A label cut like that are seconds - i am very annoyed this was not stated on the listing at all !!!

Nor was the mention of the rip on the eyelet !
A refund was asked for but the seller will not give the refund untill she recieves the  curtains  back ... soph is gonna end up out of pocket ..and very disapointed - grrrrrrrrrrr  the curtains are heavy and i do not trust the seller to say she has recieved them or to give the refund -  why should we if the listing was dishonest to start with ???  if a dispute with ebay is opened soph will
not get the money back intime to kit the flat out - she gets the keys next week...
So .... can anyone advise if this can be mended ????
and the best place ( cheap to lol ) in leeds if it can be ?

As you can see the eyelet looks like its come away - it is in fact more ripped on the edge of it , rather than pulled away from the eyelet .. if these were used the material would rip further everytime they were drawn closed..... can this be repaired ? i am not brill with sewing - but if it can be repaired is it simple to do ie could a non expert do it ?

I'd be so grateful for advise on this as soph set her heart on these.
Thanks fellow bloggers xxxxxxxx

This is a bit of a blow to say the least and really they should'nt get away with it...but, things as they are, the only thing I can suggest is to try and see if the material will ease back under the ring, it's not easy but can be done, same thing happened to my friends, but once you've messed with it they won't take them back at all....you know this really makes me mad, I am sorry for you, good luck with sorting it out.xx

Horrible buggers some people are on Ebay. I would definitely open a dispute though, My ex-boss used to sell blinds on ebay and in the case of the disputes now they side very heavily with the buyer rather than the seller. They stop the money out of the sellers account immediately until the dispute is settled.

In honesty, unless you shorten the curtains and take the eyelet heading off I don't think you will be able to repair it successfully. The eyelet would need to come out and the manufactured ones don't usually go back together. When they make them there is usually a heavy stiffened fabric at the top sandwiched in between the 2 layers of fabric. There is no seam margin to play with so when it has been cut too tightly as in this case there is just no room to play. The only thing I can think if to stop the fraying any further and help to stabilise it is to very carefully slip some bondaweb in between the 2 layers and on the wrong side of the curtain add a patch of cream fabric like a lining fabric. The adhesive in the bondaweb will stop it fraying any further and the fabric will patch the hole up and make it less noticeable.

dependent on whereabouts the damage is on width of the curtain you may be able to conceal the affected bit by playing about with how the curtains are pulled across the pole.

If your daughter is insistent she wants to keep them I would suggest trying to get the seller to give you a partial refund for the curtains because of the remedial work you will have to undertake. If you do complain to Ebay make it very clear to them you are aware they are seconds because of the cut label, were not sold as such and this is obviously a case of mis-representation of the goods. However if you do end up sending the goods back please ensure you use a form of delivery service that gets you a signed proof of delivery or they can claim they haven't had them back. They will more than likely be heavy and expensive to send back by post so I would suggest looking into a cheap carrier like Parcels 2 Go, they have some decent rates that start from only £3.99.

Hope that helps and good luck, let us know how you get on!

Oh Maddy this is awful poor Sophie she must be livid I know I would be, I would definitely open a dispute, that's not on at all, sorry I can't help with fixing, I'm really no expert in this matter. Take care, Teresa xx

Grrrr!!!! Maddy! this makes me so cross. I would reiterate what others have said that you really should open a case. Sellers can not get away with doing this! If it were you or I (which it would not be!) we would soon be reported to ebay for sure! I am not great with a needle and thread, but do some Cleaners (like Crockatts etc) have repair services? I am wondering if you could get advice there so a machinist can actually see the problem to give you a constructive answer? Or say John Lewis. You do not have to leave it there, just get advice and an estimate of the cost???? Just a thought. Poor Sophie, and poor you too! Judy x

If the curtains were paid for via paypal and you get a receipt for the return postage everything should go smoothly! Paypal will pay the refund then chase the ebay seller for the money!

AS most have said, I would open a dispute with ebay or paypal if you paid by this method. The goods are not as described. I think the seller has the right to have the goods returned but whatever you do make sure you get a tracking number for your return as you are asked for this in any dispute. Good Luck.

Ohhh Mandy def ngo for opening a dispute & as earlier stated the parcel comp
http://www.parcel2go.com/
is very reasonable BUT do get the parcel signed for if you send them back..if you cant face returning them...is there enough room at the top to sew curtain tape on & use ring type hooks??

hope you get it sorted ? if it was me I would fight tooth n nail..for a refund..

smiles Christine xx

Hi Maddy, First I think you really should do as the others have advised. On the subject of curtain repair..I do take it this is a ring that the pole goes through? Is it the the last ring? nearest the curtain edge? if so would the curtain stand being narrower? if so it may be easier to have it altered that way. Hope this makes sense. It looks as though it is frayed too much to get back into the ring I would say xx Mau
sending you both a Hug xx

It sounds like you have had some really useful advice already, but in case you want another opinion - Annie is the guru on mending and alterations, she runs her own business and I am sure she would read your post and offer suggestions http://wipso-astitchintime.blogspot.com/. maybe if she is in your neck of the woods she could do the repair?

If the curtains are too long you could cut the eyelets off and put curtain header tape on top. x

All excellent advice Maddy. Mandy has it on the money - make sure if you do decide to return them, to use recorded delivery so they HAVE to sign for the parcel.

Mau's idea to 'narrow' the cutain is first class but make sure you get some compensation from the seller to pay for it and the fact they were seconds - presumably the price was set on them being perfect.
Hope this gets sorted very soon.

My poor daughter is now £45.00 worse off because some theiving e-bayer said she didn't receive the maternity clothes Bev sold to her. Bev didn't know about recorded delivery as the pos office assistant said she only needed proof of posting.

I hope you got this sorted Maddy, Paypal doesn's support partial refunds, as I found to my cost (well my son's cost). He bought a sub woofer and it arrived broken, and we had to get a headed quote for repairs which cost us £20, before Paypal would accept it was damaged, they they told us to send it back for refund, we asked if we could have a partial refund, and get it repaired as we would lose out if we paid for postage back and having paid for a quote. They just closed the case and we had the broken sub and no compensation. You should have got a full refund including postage back, you would have to pay postage to send them back, some sellers are really nice and refund that too but that is rare.

Dispute it absolutely. I don't think it can be fixed...other than a patch on the back side. But I don't think that would hide the tear. Have you a seamstress in the area? See what she/he says about repairs.
